April is Fair Housing Month
Fair Housing is a longstanding issue in the US. April is designated as Fair Housing Month, meant to highlight the ways discrimination (conscious or unconscious) happens and ways to combat it. April was a busy month for me personally (more on that later) but I wanted to highlight one small thing each of us can do before the month ends.
Language. Changing the language you use when you talk about homes is one small thing you can do. It’s a way to be inclusive and recognize that not all people fit into traditional roles. Also, changing language you have been conditioned to use is hard. You’ll make mistakes — I do too. Just keep trying.
