When is it the right time to sell?
I keep getting asked “What’s happening in the real estate market?” Plenty. There are buyers out looking for their next home. There are sellers looking to move. There are people talking to lenders to figure out their budget. There are people waiting and watching to see what’s going to happen. There’s no lack of activity.
Is it the right time to sell? In the DC metro area, homes are being listed at rates similar to 2019. They are selling quickly (provided they are well marketed and well priced), and there are some that are getting multiple offers. But does any of that make it the right time to sell?
It all depends on your “Why.” I talked to two different potential sellers this week. One is a past client who’s been thinking of buying a larger home in DC. She recently spent some time with her young grandchild, had another one born just this week, and is expecting a third in the fall. Guess what? There are no grandchildren in DC and spending time with them is important to her. That means, it’s time to sell the DC home and move closer to the grandchildren. The other is a new client. He’s decided it’s time to move into a senior community. He’ll be selling his DC property and another in Maryland. Both of these people are making decisions based on their lives and what’s changing. They’re making decisions that meet their current needs.
Selling real estate depends on your “Why.” If you’re clear on your goals, then the decision becomes clear. If you’re not sure what your goals are and why you would or should be selling your home, then it’s time to start having conversations with those you love and trust to figure that out. If you want to understand, what the market looks like for your particular property, I’m here to help.
