New Beginnings for Fall

New Beginnings for Fall

I took the month of August off from blogging and my newsletter. I needed some time to recharge and reset since the last 6 months of 2020 has felt like a decade. September is bringing big changes for me personally: I’m still working from home, but Dan is back to teaching from school with no kids, and the toddler is back in her daycare pod. This is the fourth (I think) family routine we’ve had this year. While change can be a good thing, it can also be tiring — I’m definitely experiencing some fatigue in this area.

I find that whenever my routine resets it’s a chance to create habits for success, so that’s my focus for September. My most successful attempt at this was starting a new Pilates routine at a new job back in 2013. I started going weekly on Thursdays after work and kept it up for 5 years. This time around I’m hoping for a small piece of that success and that this routine lasts long enough for me to get settled and create some new good habits.

To get me started on the right foot I bought a new habit tracker and dug out some old gel pens. It’s amazing how much joy colorful pens can spark for me — it’s the little things for sure!

Here are the new habits I’m trying to form:

  1. Exercise - being home all the time with no childcare really derailed my exercise routine so I want to get that back.

  2. Meditation - I did a challenge over the summer and want to try to keep it up.

  3. 10 Minutes of Tidy - spending so much time at home has really taken a toll on our house and I find this is one of the easiest ways to get things back under control without getting overwhelmed. My mom is the master of this. As soon as she walks in the door in the evening she’s on it.

  4. Read/Listen - I really enjoy reading and listening to podcasts. I do this almost every day anyway so this one is on here mostly so I feel like I have a win every day.
