Supporting Community to End the Year
2020 has been tough! Here are a few thoughts on supporting local community as we round out the year:
Supporting Small Business
Small Business Saturday was a success this year but even if you didn’t participate it’s not too late to support small business as you’re finishing up your holiday shopping.
Here are a few local businesses I’m shopping at this year:
Harper McCaw - locally made chocolate
Mahogany Books - Local Black Owned bookstore. They’re famous now too!
Fuse Pilates - my favorite Pilates studio! They are offering online classes too!
Republic Restoratives - local spirits
The Evolving Sunflower - Black and Woman Owned business producing hand poured candles
Supporting Local Community Organizations
Our local community needs more support than ever this year. There are so many worthy organizations to support but here are the ones I’m supporting this year:
Ward 4 Mutual Aid - Part of the Mutual Aid Network which is neighbors supporting neighbors
Direct Support of Immigrants - local organization supporting refugees, asylees, and their families
Miriam’s Kitchen - Connecting local families to social services
Latino Economic Development Center - Driving the economic and social advancement of underserved communities in DC, Maryland, Virginia, and Puerto Rico
There are so many other wonderful small businesses and nonprofits in our area. Leave your favorite’s in the comments.
